Test Targets 4.0

Test Targets is a collection of scholarly papers contributed by faculty, students, and alumni of Rochester Institute of Technology. It is a collaborative effort exploring the use of scientific method for color imaging and process control. The content is a result of student teamwork to publish a technical journal for a graduate-level course titled: Advance Color Management. Offered by the School of Print Media (SPM) at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), the course is “a platform to experiment and to realize a new digital imaging paradigm and the dynamics of teamwork” (Robert Chung, Gravure Research Professor).
This edition of Test Targets explores various types of image reproduction, featuring the use of hexachrome inks for image reproduction versus 4-color process. The articles address color reproduction issues such as color management in commercial printing, watercolor reproduction, and input profile variations. Some focus is put on color analysis tools and process variation measurement.
The Gallery of Visual Interest features images illustrating the effect of different rendering intents, and the visual differences resulting from the use of different source profiles. This section also looks into the visual results of AM and FM screening in process-color, 4-color monochrome, and single-black images.
